Frequent Questions About Pellet Therapy
How long do BHRT pellets last?
Pellet implants usually last between 3-5 months and need to be inserted 2-4 times per year depending on how fast the hormones are metabolized.
Are there any side effects?
Occasionally, minor bleeding or bruising may occur. Very rarely, infection and pellet extrusion has been known to occur.
How do I know what hormones I needs?
Patients will have hormone testing done to determine their personal hormone profile. Dr. Lentz will then recommend a hormone replacement plan based on individual results.
How are hormones monitored during therapy?
Hormone levels are measured initially at the start of therapy to determine patients' needs. Then, the patients response is monitored by periodic retesting. As the individual needs and response are determined, testing becomes less frequent.
Can patients be allergic to implants?
Patients very rarely develop a local area of redness and itching at the site of implant. There is minimal to no tenderness with no other signs of infection. Most often, patients who develop the reaction have low cortisol levels and be tested for adrenal insufficiency.
How much does it cost?
The cost varies depending on the dose of hormone and number of pellets needed. Men need larger doses so the cost is higher.
